Origins of Mocha,
a table on Summer Ave.

Coffee's story began in a Yemeni port called Mocha. Aldar Cafe brings that story to Memphis — Yemeni coffee and tea, an all-day Arabic breakfast, and a room built for staying a while.

Our Story

Named for home.

Al-dar means "the house" in Arabic — and that's the idea. Aldar Cafe opened its doors on Summer Avenue in January 2024, joining Memphis's Summer Avenue International District, a stretch of the city known for its density of family-run restaurants from around the world.

The menu draws on Yemen, where coffee cultivation began centuries ago in the port city of Mocha — the reason "mocha" means coffee to the whole world. Alongside Yemeni coffee and tea, Aldar serves Arabic breakfast, Levantine flatbreads, and a matcha bar for regulars chasing something cooler and sweeter.

Word has traveled fast: Aldar has built a loyal following among Memphians looking for something outside the usual drive-through coffee run, and among the international community that calls Summer Avenue home.

A house built for staying a while

Comfy couches next to high tables, a corner with games for the kids, and service paced for conversation rather than a queue.

Family & Community Table

Aldar draws a genuinely international crowd — regulars, students, and neighbors from Summer Avenue's International District trade stories over a pot of Arabic coffee, kept warm tableside by a small tea light.
